The visual identity created for the FaVU 30 celebrations appropriates the language of contemporary memes, which are used here to comment on the faculty’s own mythology and the issues facing the local art scene. The latter has long been criticized for its supposed insularity and exclusivity toward the outside world. Memes (widely circulated storytelling archetypes) serve in this context as broad interpretive frameworks that make these internal commentaries accessible even to those outside the narrow circle of the art world. In this case, a single meme speaks louder than a thousand words, even if its meaning may remain ambiguous. The campaign’s self-ironic tone can also be read as a gesture through which the institution offers the public a different face: one that is more approachable and vulnerable than what is typically presented in conventional promotional materials.
